Guidelines for Enjoying Our Lands

Planning a visit? Here’s what you need to know about recreating on our preserves.

Or call 207-739-2124 ext. 3

Hunting and Trapping

Hunting and trapping policies vary by property, and where permitted are governed by Maine state law. For specifics on our policies regarding hunting and trapping, visit our webpage on hunting and trapping. For more information on hunting in Maine, visit the Maine Inland Fisheries and Wildlife website.

Camping

Our preserves are open for day-use only. Overnight camping is not permitted on any Land Trust property. This helps protect sensitive habitats and ensures everyone can safely enjoy the outdoors.

Foraging

Foraging for personal use is permitted across all fee-owned properties. However, commercial foraging is not permitted.

Fires

Open fires and campfires are strictly prohibited. Even small fires pose a risk to forests, wildlife, and nearby communities—especially during dry or windy conditions.

Fireworks

Fireworks are not allowed on Land Trust properties. In addition to the risk of wildfire, fireworks can disturb wildlife and diminish the peaceful nature of our preserves. (Please note that the Town of Norway prohibits the use and possession of fireworks.)

Fishing

Fishing is allowed on any fee-owned property with water access, and is governed by Maine state law. For more information on fishing in Maine, visit the Maine Inland Fisheries and Wildlife website.
